Data is King: What NonStop Mission-Critical Applications Can Learn from Formula 1

“Getting through the mountains of data generated in Formula 1 can be a ‘needle in a haystack’ process for teams searching for performance ... In a sporting series as technologically cutting-edge as Formula 1, data has become king.”

For the NonStop community, this is throwing a spotlight on transaction processing in new ways. For every transaction initiated at a retailer, for instance, there is a need to know more about that end user (buying the product or service) in order to immediately up-sell something else. The time you have a customer in front of you can be very short, so retailers know the importance of leveraging those few minutes.

This is leading to a greater demand for data integration; retailers are looking to integrate analytics with transaction processing in real time. Yes, data integration! And data integration is how meaningful information is created ...

Of course we are all familiar with the need to ensure data is never lost or taken offline for any reason. We are now in situations where we are supporting two, three and sometimes as many as five or ten data centers where, behind the scenes, data is being replicated as part of an IT-wide approach to ensuring data availability and data integrity. DRNet has been involved in moving data for many decades now and is relied upon to ensure the degree of availability and integrity IT demands but of late.

DRNet has been enhanced and is making a strong case for consideration when it comes to data integration. To that end, what comes out of a NonStop system may end up in the data warehouses and data lakes that have become a priority for many enterprises seeking to gain meaningful insight about the behavior of their customers.

Moving data and moving files, delivering packages and integrating related content typically are just the starting point and as we tackle the opportunities we see arising with AI and deep learning, there is a real interest among the NonStop community in doing a lot more than just moving data and files.

As Formula 1 has so openly acknowledged, getting through the mountains of data generated by a Formula 1 car is proving overwhelming and teams that want to remain competitive are turning to AI. And as noted earlier, in the real-time mission-critical transaction-processing world where NonStop operates, the escalation in the velocity that data is arriving needs a lot more than simple programming routines – we need AI! As for the photo of the formula car above, yes, behind the dark glasses (and next to the tires), is George Steinbrenner IV of the Yankees baseball dynasty who is now a team owner in open wheel racing.

NTI: Bringing value of partnerships to NonStop customers.

A popular Australian industry commentator, Kim Brebach the Content Chief & Business Strategist at Tech Torque Systems, recently posted to LinkedIn an examination of our over-reliance on terms that could best be described, for the most part, as being nothing more than a string of clichés. To drive home the point, Brebach pulled together the following: “I’m no visionary, evangelist, or thought leader either. A man has got to know his limitations. Visionary. Evangelist – I love amazing words that take your writing to the next level. And fancy ones like mesmerize, incentivize and monetize. Let's think strategically for a moment: if we put amazing words like these together with powerful clichés, we'll have a marriage made in heaven. We could own this space, right?” We may smile to ourselves as we read the above but coming as this does after we have all sat through many presentations on products and services that were given at this year’s All-Digital Experience, there were numer...

NTI wonders; do you know the way to San Jose, or rather, to your computer?

The boys are back on the diamond swinging for the fences while others are taking to the grid iron. Cars are once again racing on track even as rugby down-under is heading for finals. Everywhere you look in these troubled times, there are contests underway and the crowds may be cardboard cut-outs, but there is no denying that competitions are being taken seriously, no matter the contest.   When it comes to technology, competition couldn’t be fiercer. The potential to get your message before millions of “eyeballs” has become the main marketing outlet for many in business and for good reason, there are fewer readers of traditional media and network television is under real threat from streaming services. Hands up if you have access to channels from Amazon Prime, Netflix and Disney+? Point is, none of this is lost on the NonStop community as we watch vendors vie for prominence in any decision-making situation.   One of the real benefits NonStop users enjoy is a cons...
