NTI taps new opportunities; NonStop users preparing to move-on from status quo.

”Maintaining the status quo is a recipe for stagnation,” so one source tapped recently. More to my way of thinking, when it comes to accepting the status quo, was the observation by Henry Ford; “If I would’ve asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses.” Among the NonStop community there has never been support for just doing the same time and time again, rather, there was always a willingness to pursue new opportunities so long as the risk to NonStop itself could be managed. No NonStop user wanted to ever compromise the availability attribute of NonStop!   There continues to be a lot of emphasis placed on Digital Transformation (DX). New IDC Spending Guide Shows Continued Growth for Digital Transformation in 2020, Despite the Challenges Presented by the COVID-19 Pandemic , an IDC update of May 20, 2020, made it very clear that for the foreseeable future, DX would involve considerable effort being devoted to ensuring the right product mix is deployed across t...

The NTI team meets in Ohio and the news is all good!

Spending time on the road never surprises anyone who follows our posts to any of the blogs we support. It’s all part and parcel of the way we interact with the NonStop vendor community and is the routine manner by which we communicate the changing industry landscape. Whether it is presenting at a RUG event, participating in a webinar or simply catching up with former colleagues, the common thread connecting everything we do is NonStop. And with that, and the passion with which I address NonStop products and features, we are being kept very busy of late as HPE continues to push the boundaries in its support of NonStop solutions. However, this most recent road trip to Columbus, Ohio, proved to be anything but a routine event! We haven’t previously made the trip to NTI’s head office and had only met just a few of the team members at RUG meetings. This time we met with all the folks behind the DR Net ® products and we are pleased to report, NTI has a great team supporting its product lin...

Last week – drilling for oil; this week, panning for gold

This weekend it’s off to Leipzig, Germany for the big pan-European NonStop GTUG event featuring all things NonStop. I am about to head off even as I begin winding down for the week – the weekend will be a time for travel and hopefully, I will see many of you in Leipzig as the event kicks off Monday afternoon. If you have as yet not checked the agenda, you may want to do so as it can be found at: http://www.gtug.de/HotSpot2018/download/Agenda.pdf With pre-conference workshops scheduled on Monday afternoon featuring blockchain, it certainly is going to attract considerable interest from the community – if you have missed any of my recent posts to other social media forums you will already know how bullish I am about the future for NonStop with its support for blockchain and distributed ledger technology. What it comes down to is that an important new technology from HPE, with almost no limits to how it can save business money, has hit the marketplace and not just with any produ...

NTI – it’s a hybrid IT world where DRNet contributes!

Where HPE is taking NonStop today isn’t proving too surprising for the NonStop community. In fact, where NonStop is headed is a direction sorely needed by NonStop customers, big and small. The first step in the journey for NonStop came with the port of NonStop to x86, the migration of the interconnect from proprietary ServerNet to InfiniBand (IB) and more recently, to RDMA over Converged Ethernet (RoCE), and then a second step that saw an even bigger shift for NonStop as HPE complemented current support for physical machines with support for NonStop of virtual machines. Yes, NonStop is on a journey and that journey is going to better align NonStop with the major initiatives within HPE to simplify a data center’s transformation to hybrid IT. Under newly-elevated HPE CEO, Antonio Neri’s, direction HPE has divided itself into three core businesses. The major business (and the most relevant for the NonStop community) is called Hybrid IT and it is comprised of the compute, storage, and d...
