  Sometimes you can be fortuitous in your planning and even lucky with your messaging. Then again, you might be able to put it down to the interactions between team members that drive conversations to where ideas flourish and images take shape in your mind. For much of 2021 the NTI team has been engaged in such processes and it has led to a reimagining of how best to present the DR Net ® product suite while complementing earlier messaging with a number of modern touches.   Where our conversations led us was to an appreciation of safety, of reduced risks and of having confidence in your partner! The NonStop community is a very strong community that has taken considerable pride in organizing meetings on a regular basis. Community members have been associated with NonStop systems for three or more decades, perhaps longer. The history of NonStop is rich with anecdotes about who deployed what and when, even as the NonStop vendor community has thrived on solving business problems. The level of participation in HPE NonStop’s annual NonStop Technical Boot Camp (TBC) was encouraging to see and now that attendees have returned home, there is ample time to cover topics that were popular at the event. Clearly, it’s become increasingly noticeable that enterprises worldwide are embracing hybrid IT and that clouds are playing an important role in many of the decisions enterprises are making. Who wouldn’t want to become more productive at less cost? Who wouldn’t want to break the cycle of upfront investments for a more flexible, pay-as-you-go, model? The number of times presentations highlighting the benefits of IT embracing an Operational Expense (OpEx) model, versus the traditional Capital Expense (CapEx) options of the past, were hard to miss. Half a decade ago IBM illustrated a post to the IBM blog with this schematic. IBM pulled data from 800 plus enterprises and published a report, “Under cloud cover: How leaders are accelerating competitive differentiation.” While we may raise concerns about the age of this report, it does hit the mark in some areas that the NonStop community seek to address – when to use cloud computing and how best to leverage virtualized NonStop and not forgetting just how important analytics have become.  In the coming years, it is HPE’s expectation that the number of enterprises running traditional NonStop versus those running virtualized NonStop (vNS) will likely be about the same. There is every potential that some vNS will find their way into the cloud, but perhaps most important of all, whether in the cloud or not, analytics platform will be close by and looking to access NonStop created data. There isn’t a day that passes where there isn’t a reference to clouds in industry publications – whether public or private clouds, managed or otherwise. These almost constant references to clouds are driving the conversation within the IT industry to the point where almost any other model for data processing, as we have known IT for a number of decades, is considered legacy. For your NTI team the month of June concluded with participation in the N2TUG event held outside Dallas at the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center, Grapevine, Texas. The venue proved to be a good drawcard for the NonStop Regional User Group (RUG) members, with attendees filling the meeting room throughout the day. Always a good litmus test of the interest in all things NonStop, N2TUG didn’t disappoint and we were encouraged by the strength of the community.  There is much to be said about RUG events these days and it’s all positive – with so much change happening at HPE and with as much engagement as there is today between HPE and the NonStop team, who would want to miss hearing about NonStop whenever an opportunity presents itself?
