According to HPE CEO, Antonio Neri, we are entering the age of insight. “Researchers and providers were overwhelmed by the volume of the data - unable to create insights and action from portions of information. I believe we are nearing the end of the information era, which focused on generating and collecting massive amounts of data - data that could not be brought together to create timely insights and actions to change our future,” said Neri at this year’s HPE Discover virtual event. “The next decade must be about insights and discoveries …”
Industry bloggers have picked up on this renewed emphasis on insight as well. In a post last year, one such blogger began by saying, “As disruptive technologies emerge and find large-scale adoption, there is an influx of massive amounts of data within enterprises. Scattered data exists across various systems in companies … it’s important to have it streamlined, organized, and simplified into a cohesive whole.” In the summation, the blogger reiterated the obvious for NonStop users: “The solution lies in data integration from all sources, so users can view it as one centralized data set. Such data can prove powerful when used correctly, and its accurate analysis can help transform your business and build value.”
These statements are not only apparent today, for most users, but connect two very important directives – gaining insight and transforming your business. It is very much all about the data, the focus of NTIs vision for DRNet®. It should be highlighted that gaining insights isn’t strictly about just gaining wisdom or about elevating visibility. Rather, it’s about providing tools, intelligence and visualization that transforms your business in these challenging times. Applying insight to transformation of the business is very much the goal of enterprises today.
NonStop interfacing directly with the end-user is giving enterprise’s data on what’s new, what’s valued and what’s a priority such that everything from marketing to supply chains can be fine-tuned to better optimize operations that lead to greater market capture opportunities. Data on NonStop must move as scattered data left siloed cannot influence the transformation of data into information, be subject to intelligent analysis or provide the insight enterprises demand.
In the October 2020 issue
of NonStop Insider, the importance of data integration was the main topic of
the article, NTI is pushing the shadow from the global
pandemic aside as it sees NonStop users turning to DRNet® . Despite the difficult times under which we are all
living, with NonStop running many of the important mission-critical
applications on which we all rely, transaction volumes went up even as
integration of NonStop into the larger IT landscape within our enterprises
became more complex. For NTI there has been a strong interest in the
application of data replication to the business of data integration. Data
freshly created on NonStop is at its greatest relevance when it can be actioned
upon immediately:
“The strong interest in DRNet® is exemplified by the uptick in Proof of Concepts with which the company has been involved over the summer months.
“The PoCs are going well and even as there is more work to be done, we are looking forward to leveraging the opportunity that comes with the upcoming NonStop All Digital Experience (ADE) to give further insight into the features and properties of DRNet® that are proving of value to the NonStop community.
“‘Earlier
this year, COVID-19 cast a shadow across the global IT landscape motivating
everyone to adjust to a new normal,’ said Tim Dunne, NTI’s Global Director
Worldwide Sales. ‘NTI has benefited from these adjustments particularly
POC-related initiatives involving core DRNet®
as replacement for more expensive, poorly supported technologies and the
enormous interest in the testing our Vision product feeding Kafka and
Splunk>.’”
Data integration may have become more complex with the increased complexity of our data centers. But before we have greater insight, we do need to visualize the complete picture and data created on NonStop is of vital importance for all enterprises running mission-critical applications on NonStop. When it comes to deriving Business Intelligence (BI) from the data we integrate within data lakes and data warehouses, the presence of data from NonStop makes sure that the complete picture is at hand and is being continuously refreshed. Business insights can be derived in real time with the enterprise being able to respond in an instant.
While we have been writing about NTI’s vision for data that is created on NonStop and how best to ensure integration of this data with the rest of IT, what has become newsworthy of late has been the acceptance of this vision among NonStop users. It’s good to have the messages well communicated and the PowerPoint slides updated but there’s nothing better than seeing broad acceptance of the Change Data Capture (CDC) model when applied to data integration.
